Newbie Mistake 1 - Build up your content BEFORE monetizing.
This probably kills more new web marketers than any thing
else. Joe decides he is going to build a website, put up
some affiliate links and sell some products and soon he'll
be rolling in the CASH! More often than not, Joe is back
delivering pizzas in a few months and talking about how you
can't make any money on the internet.
This is not the case if you follow a few simple guidelines.
Get your site full of useful, unique, quality content
and concentrate on getting the search engines to take
notice of your site first. When you start getting noticed
and the hits start coming, then you can start to monetize
your pages.
Start building backlinks from ranked sites by
submitting articles targeted to your sites niche.
Search for blogs where you can post comments relating to the
content of your site(don't forget to post the URL of your
site, thats your backlink).
Sign up and experiment with Adsense. Placement of the ads,
whether to use text or banner ads, the number of ads per
page will always be debated. Find out for yourself by trying
different variations on pages. Placing text links between
paragraphs seems to work well.
